Background

Kari Gomes, DPT, PT, supervises the Provider Education and Medical Treatment Guidelines units within the Colorado Division of Workers’ Compensation. Kari has served in various roles at the Division, she currently oversees content development for accreditation courses and updates to Colorado’s medical treatment guidelines, in addition to her previous role as impairment rating expert for the DIME and Provider education units. She obtained her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Regis University, Denver, CO and a Bachelor of Science in Sports, Health and Wellness from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. After nine years of working as a physical therapist in a variety of clinical settings including outpatient orthopedics, long-term acute care and skilled nursing, she decided to pursue a role as a regulator. Through her various roles as a clinician, consumer and regulator she has had a close up view of the issues that exist in our healthcare systems. Her goal as a regulator is to advocate for the consumer by improving access to care, incentivizing care coordination and integrating quality of care into the workers’ compensation system.
